Ben and Michelle Algiere of Algiere’s Landscaping in Preston, CT pride themselves in creating a unique work culture in that they strive to provide a fun  environment. In the past they have raised funds for a local charity, gone to a concert together and participated in Preston’s Trunk or Treat.

Another  way they have accomplished that is by acquiring a mascot. Thanks to the creative mind of Sarah Marshall Edmond and her GinchyBots, we have Big Al.

In the spirit of Algiere’s Landscaping’s attitude towards fun, we’re bringing Big Al out of retirement. He’s been out playing in the snow, and will be appearing randomly with the crew this landscaping season.

Big Al loves to tag along with the guys and help with spring clean ups. From raking up last fall’s leaves that came down late to pruning out winter kill, Big Al helps keep the spirit of fun for Algiere’s Landscaping crew.

Why the belief in fun? In construction [which is what landscaping is classified as] it can be very much a boys club and extremely physically demanding at times. Keeping the work environment fun  relieves tension and helps everyone stay motivated.

Fall into a cleaner, healthier yard this autumn!

The time has come once again for fall cleanups! Last year due to an early snowfall we couldn’t get to all the fall clean ups scheduled. They’re predicting an even worse winter this year, so give us a call to make sure your yard gets the care it needs to weather the season!!!

What goes in to a fall clean up? While it’s important to removed leaf fall to maintain a proper ph in your soil, it’s more than just leaves! Now is the time to plant spring bulbs, remove dead limbs and trim branches that might fall and cause damage to your property in an especially heavy winter storm. Last year we received almost 40 inches of snow from Storm Nemo alone, so it’s important to show your yard some preventive care before the season hits. We offer a range of services, including mulch installation, leaf removal, as well as bulb planting and limb trimming. Give us a call and set up an appointment for a free estimate for services unique to your own needs.

We at Algiere’s love our customers, and we love our fellow local businesses. With that in mind, we’re offering a special coupon for 25 dollars off 3 hours of service, but you can only pick up these special coupons at the Norwichtown People’s Bank location. Come on down, get a deal on your fall cleanup needs!

Ben’s Beard 2014

Spring is only a week away, so they tell us, must be time to shave Ben’s beard!!

The even will occur on April 17th, and we’re just hoping the boys won’t need their beards by then. In addition to Ben and Jeremy, Patrick Bohan, who joined the Algiere’s team in May, has also put his razor aside all winter and is ready to get shorn for charity!

This year all proceeds will go to support St. Vincent de Paul Place in Norwich. Supporting those in need in Norwich, St Vincent de Paul provides meals on site, as well as a pantry for folks who need food at home. In this way, the organization can help the homeless and those on a limited income gain more independence. To give a donation, you can use the link below, putting Ben’s Beard in the gift section. This year you can also give a food donation as well, bringing canned and paper goods to their downtown Norwich location, at 120 Cliff Street, the old St. Joseph’s school. Paper and nonperishable food donations can also be dropped off at the Greater Norwich Chamber of Commerce, located at 112 Main St.  Currently they’re in need of tuna fish, pasta sauce, canned soup, pasta, oatmeal, butter/margarine, napkins, paper towels, and garbage bags.

So forget the groundhog and the snow still on the ground, Ben’s Beard is the TRUE sign of spring, make your donation today!

Build a Patio for Your Daddy-O!

Happy Father's Day

Grilling season is here! Give Pop a patio so he can sizzle in style!

Just in time for Father’s Day, enjoy a 15% discount on a new patio 200sq.ft. or larger when you sign a contract by June 17th.

Patios are a great way to create an outdoor space that ties in seamlessly with the house’s interior and expand the living space for the homeowner. Whether modern, southwestern, classic, or French Provencal, any style of architecture can be incorporated within a hardscape.

Depending upon the size of your yard, for example, you can include a full outdoor kitchen for parties or evenings it’s too nice to stay indoors. Including a pergola can add definition to a space and separate spots for play and rest. It also gives you a great way to hang outdoor lighting.

A pergola is a great way to give your guests refuge from the sun while still allowing them to enjoy the light.

Having a small lot, or even no lot at all, doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t have outdoor living space. Using a diagonal design can trick the eye and make the most of a tiny space. For apartment dwellers, consider putting in a rooftop or balcony patio, using pots and plants such as lavender or rosemary, which are not only fragrant but also wind resistant and hardy.

Whatever your outdoor needs, Ben has the solution. Give Algiere’s a call and let’s give Dad a man cave in the great outdoors!
